The Village of Cerro Gordo has entered into a four year contract with the Piatt County Sheriff's Office that will provide police coverage. The start of the contract will not begin until the Sheriff's Department is able to hire and train a new officer.
The village has been considering the change since the retirement of long-time police chief Pat Carter. The contract is expected to save the village $30,000 per year. The contract includes 40 hours police coverage per week and covers deputy pay, equipment, and a patrol car that will be marked as both a Piatt County Sheriff and Village of Cerro Gordo vehicle.
